Confirmed as a venue for sailing events during the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, the up-and-coming town of Enoshima and the city of Fujisawa are must-see destinations. The area is about a one-hour train ride from Shinjuku, which makes it an easy day trip. Fujisawa not only has many locally owned shops, but also the popular Enoden train line that takes visitors from Fujisawa to Enoshima and the neighboring Kamakura. There are a lot of things to see and do in this area, so there are many repeat visitors. You’re sure to make great memories in Fujisawa, a place rich with history, nature and food.
Fujisawa City Hall
This new City Hall was completed in January 2018. With the roof top garden and the observatory, the city aims to make it a place for locals to relax, and at the same time seeks to develop Fujisawa into a destination where overseas guests can casually visit.
Established in 1936, the present owner, Mr. Miyazaki is named by the city with the title of “Fujisawa Master” for his mastery in Japanese sweet making. Shogetsu is a well-established confectionery where the sweets are all hand-made.
The island has been a place of worship from ancient times, but its attraction is not just the shrines. The botanic garden, seafood restaurants, and a lighthouse with beautiful panoramic view make Enoshima a popular place to visit today.
Kamakura Daibutsu (Great Buddha)
The Great Buddha in Kotokuin Temple Kamakura is one of the three large Buddhas in Japan, 13m in height and 121t in weight, and it is designated as National Treasure. The compound of Kotokuin Temple is a nationally designated historical site known as the “Kamakura Great Buddha Temple Ruins”.
